Trusting in His Plan: My Journey Through Waiting, Faith, and The Miracle of Birth
The Miracle of Birth
Having a baby is a miracle. However, for some of us, achieving that miracle of birth is a long and windy road. As I think back about my journey to have a baby, it was filled with years of trying, countless prayers, miscarriages, and IVF. Eventually, at 45, I held that miracle in my arms. I learned throughout my life to trust in God’s plan for me. This was the inspiration for designing the Trust In His Plan shirt. Today, we will look at the stories in the Bible that teach us about trusting in God’s perfect plan, even when we don’t understand it.
The Pain and Promise of Waiting
The Bible doesn’t shy away from the struggles of women who longed to become mothers. Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, and Hannah each waited for years, sometimes decades, clinging to the hope that God would fulfill His promises for a child. Their stories remind us that God sees our pain and hears our cries, even when the waiting seems endless.
Take Sarah, for example. She was 90 years old when she gave birth to Isaac—a promise God had made years earlier. While Sarah waited for her miracle of birth she wrestled with doubt and even tried to take matters into her own hands. However, God fulfilled his promise, and Isaac’s birth symbolized His faithfulness.
“Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” (Genesis 18:14)
This question echoed in my heart during my journey. Then, it reached the point that I stopped thinking about it and convinced myself that maybe this was not God’s plan for me. But looking back now, even when it felt like nothing was happening or things were going wrong, God’s plan was unfolding.
The Role of Faith
Hannah’s story resonated deeply with me. She poured out her heart in prayer, asking God for a child. In her anguish, she made a vow: if God would give her a son, she would dedicate him to the Lord. Her faith didn’t erase her pain, but it gave her the strength to trust in God’s goodness.
“And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.” (1 Samuel 1:10)
God honored Hannah’s faith, and she became the mother of Samuel, one of the greatest prophets of Israel. Like Hannah, I had to learn that trusting in God doesn’t mean we won’t experience heartbreak—it means believing that He is with us in the heartbreak.
The Miracle of His Plan
Looking into my child’s eyes today, I’m reminded of the story of Rachel. After years of infertility, God “remembered Rachel” and blessed her with a son. (Genesis 30:22) Those words, God remembered, have stayed with me. It’s not that He ever forgot; it’s that His timing was finally right.
For years, I felt like I was walking through a wilderness, praying and hoping after each cycle or miscarriage. But God was preparing my heart, my family, and my faith for the miracle that was to come. When I finally had my daughter at 45, it was a reminder that everything happens in His time.
Trust in His Plan
As I walked the long and winding road to have a child or any other heartache, what kept me going was knowing I was not forgotten. The Bible is full of stories that show how God’s timing, though mysterious, is always perfect. His plan was full of love; even when I could not see it, I had to walk by my faith that if it was for me, it would happen. When? I left that up to God.
The verse that carried me through is Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
No matter where I am in any journey, I trust that He is with me. He is working in ways I cannot yet see. And when the miracle comes—whether it’s the one I prayed for or something entirely unexpected—it will be worth the wait.
Inspired by My Story
This blog is inspired by my faith journey that led me to my child and to create a t-shirt that reflects this truth: “Trust in His Plan.” Every stitch in this shirt is a testament to the hope, prayers, and faith it takes to walk this path. It’s a reminder that even in the waiting, God is faithful.
